Vertical Worship – “Sheep And Conquerors” (Devotional)
Church Songs is not written solely for one church. Its aim is to unite the scattered soldiers of the Lord, fighting on multiple battlefronts. The circumstances of our battles vary but are essentially the same. The album is written to unify the church, encourage hearts and equip the saints. But, equip them for what?
Ephesians 6 warns believers of the spiritual battle that is raging continuously. It says, ΓÇ£for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.ΓÇ¥ There is no denying that a there is a war between the Almighty God and the evil one. God will be victorious.
Though we, the soldiers of His Kingdom, are armed with His word, danger is still inevitable. Following the Lord is anything but safe and fighting in his army does not spare the soldier from harm. But, we know the goal. We know the VICTOR.
Therefore, we must fight with all of the armor of God that we ΓÇ£may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.ΓÇ¥
As it is written, for your sakeweare being killed all day long: we are regarded as sheep to the slaughtered.Now, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:36-37
How can we be regarded as sheep to be slaughtered but also more than conquerors simultaneously? Because the sheep are not grazing isolated in the field, without guidance or protection.
We are not left to conquer the enemy alone. We belong to an army: His church.
Soldiers in this army are looking for guidance and protection. He has given us His word to provide clear battle plans and specific strategies to equip those soldiers who ardently seek to excel in battle. For Proverbs tells us, ΓÇ£by wise guidance, you can wage your war.ΓÇ¥ And to do this, a soldier must:
- Decide to fight for the King.
- Emulate the best fighter.
- Obey Orders.
- Choose weapons wisely.
- Never fight alone.
- Maximize personal strengths.
- Rejoice in the victory.
