DonΓÇÖt fight alone- Ephesians 6:14
In the Bible there are stories of weak, outnumbered soldiers of the Lord who fight and defeat strong armies several times their size. David armed with his slingshot, defeated Goliath. Gideon and his three hundred men defeated the Midianites by blowing their trumpets and confusing the enemy. Joshua and the Israelites defeated the city of Jericho by marching around the city wall, playing trumpets and shouting. In countless battles, GodΓÇÖs people seemed weak and limited in weapons while facing savage enemies. These soldiers were not fighting alone. Our strong, limitless, perfect God was on their side.
DonΓÇÖt fight alone
In Deuteronomy 20, God is instructing the Israelites to not be afraid when they go to war against stronger, well-armed enemies. He says, ΓÇ£Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.ΓÇ¥ God was with David as he stood before a giant. God was with Gideon as the Midianites were charging. God was with Joshua as the walls of Jericho crashed to the ground.
The same is true for us, for any follower of God and soldier in his army- for you. We do not fight against the evil forces of this world alone.
Ephesians 6:14 implores believers to stand firm, and put on the breastplate of righteousness, shielding us from the devilΓÇÖs arrows. Not a righteousness gained by works, but righteousness through faith in Jesus. Do not fight alone.
- Malachi 3:6-12: When you are facing a difficult financial situation, your faithful Provider is on your side
- Romans 8:31: When you feel hard-pressed and persecuted for your faith, your Refuge and Advocate is on your side
- Psalm 73:24: When you are weary, discouraged, and searching for the end of a trial or challenge, your Sovereign, never failing God is on your side
The war rages, but GodΓÇÖs people are not panicked at the determination of our opponent. We are not afraid of the evil in this world. The Lord God goes with us to fight against this enemy. We will not fight alone.
Today, ask him to fight with you. Jesus, our hope is in you.
